It is published quarterly and four editions annually constitute a volume. The Archives of Neuropsychiatry is a peer reviewed scientific journal in which clinical and basic science manuscripts in the fields of psychiatry, neurology, neurosurgery, clinical psychology and behavioral sciences are published. The language of the journal is both Turkish and English. Manuscripts submitted to the journal should not have been previously published, accepted for publication or be in the process of evaluation for publication in any other journal published in Turkish and English. This requirement does not apply to manuscripts presented as bulletins in scientific meetings and whose summaries are published. In such cases however, the name, date and place of the meeting, in which the paper was presented, should be stated. The format of the manuscripts should be in accordance with the rules of Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals: Writing and Editing for Biomedical Publications (http://www.icmje.org). The authors are asked to declare any financial relations concerning the study. All authors should state that they scientifically contributed to and took responsibility in the study and declare that there is no conflict of interest. The authors should acknowledge and provide information on grants, contracts or other financial support of the study provided by any foundations and institutions or firms. No fee or compensation will be paid for manuscripts published in the journal. Editorial board assumes that the author(s) are obliged not to submit the manuscript to another journal before the completion of the evaluation process. In the method section of the manuscript concerned with experimental research on humans or animals, a sentence showing that the informed consent of the patients or volunteers has been obtained following a detailed explanation of the interventions carried out on them. In such studies, author(s) should clearly state the compliance with international guidelines such as Declaration of Helsinki and The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals . Declaration of Helsinki can be found at www.wma.net/e/policy/pdf/17c.pdf. In experimental animal studies, ethical considerations within The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (www.nap.edu/catalog/5140.html) should be followed. Moreover, the author(s) must comply with Regulation on Medical Research issued by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health and published in the Official Journal dated 29 January 1993 and numbered 21480; and more recently published rules laid out in government ethics rules. They should forward a copy of the Ethics Committee Approval received from the relevant institution. Standard abbreviations used in the text are written in full when first mentioned. For example, when first cited in the manuscript, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) should be written, thereafter given as HDRS. In the use of drugs names in the manuscript, generic names should be written. Measurement units are given according to the metric system; e.g. written as mg, no punctuation is used, in the case of extensions ( ) is used as a separator. Laboratory measurements are reported in International System units (US; Systéme International: SI). II. Editorial and Peer Review All submitted manuscripts are reviewed initially by the Editors-in-Chief and Associate Editors. Manuscripts are evaluated according to the following criteria: material is original and timely, writing is clear, study methods are appropriate, data are valid, conclusions are reasonable and supported by the data, information is important, and the topic has general interest for the scope of the journal. From these basic criteria, the editors decide whether a manuscript reaches a priority score to justify peer review. Manuscripts with insufficient priority for publication are rejected promptly. Manuscripts which have not been straightly rejected are sent to expert consultants for peer review. Although rare, it is possible for an exceptional manuscript to be accepted upon submission. Manuscripts considered to be of interest by the editors will be peer reviewed by internationally recognized experts on the subject. Each manuscript is sent to 3 5 reviewers. When necessary, a biostatistician will also review manuscripts. A copy of the study protocol may be requested during the review process. Reviewers are matched to the paper according to their expertise. Our reviewer database is constantly being updated to ensure the reviewer profile matches that of the topic being discussed in the manuscript. We welcome suggestions for reviewers from the author though these recommendations may or may not be considered. III. Types and Characteristics of the Manuscripts to be submitted to the Journal The Archives of Neuropsychiatry publishes manuscripts prepared in accordance with the fifth edition of the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals established by the Vancouver Group (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, ICMJE), originally published in New England Journal of Medicine 1997;336:309-15. The manuscripts should be typed in Arial or Times New Roman font and double spaced with a 2 cm margin on all sides. Each section should start on a separate page and should be prepared in the following order: 1) title page, 2) abstract, 3) text, 4) references, 5) tables and/or figures. The first author serves as the primary contact for all correspondence regarding the manuscripts, unless otherwise stated. The category of the manuscript should be specified (i.e. research manuscript, brief report, case report) and the Copyright Transfer Form signed by all authors should be attached to the manuscript. All properly submitted manuscripts will receive an acknowledgment of receipt and a manuscript number. Full names and affiliations of the authors, the address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author must also be clearly indicated in the title page. Personal acknowledgements should also be given in this page. A. Research Articles: These manuscripts are those prepared in full accordance with the writing style definitions given below, in which previously unpublished original research data are evaluated. The main text section of the research manuscripts (excluding title page, references and tables/figures/pictures) must not exceed 4000 words. If some parts of the research data given in these manuscripts have previously been discussed in another manuscript, this must be notified without fail when submitting the manuscript and in addition, it should be made to the relevant manuscript within the references. B. Case Reports: These are manuscripts which present and discuss the characteristics of one or more cases which have special features and scientific importance from the clinical evaluation, treatment, follow-up or other standpoint. Case reports include the title page, abstract, main text, references, one table/figure/picture; subtitles of the main text are organized according to the text content. Abstract of the case report should have 150 words. The main text section of the case reports (excluding title page, references and table/figure/picture) must not exceed 1500 words. C. Brief Reports: These are manuscripts in which original ideas dealing with important theoretical or practical problems related to specific subjects are presented and discussed. Original manuscripts include title page, abstract, main text, references and tables/figures/pictures; sub-titles of the main text are organized according to the text content. Main text of the manuscript (excluding title page, references and tables/figures/pictures) must not exceed 2500 words. D. Special Section: 1. Letters to the Editor: These manuscripts include evaluation and criticisms of the manuscripts published in the journal. These are published together with the responses of the author(s) of the manuscript concerned where possible. 2. Problems/solutions: These manuscripts express a theoretical or practical problem encountered in subjects within the scope of the journal. 3. Meeting news/notes: These manuscripts introduce scientific meetings held or to be held on the subjects within the scope of the journal. 4. Journal news: These manuscripts introduce scientific journals being published within the scope of the journal. 5. Association news: These manuscripts introduce association dealing with the areas related to publication the scope of the journal. 6. Introduction of websites: These manuscripts introduce websites relevant to the scope of the journal. 7. Book/thesis Section: These manuscripts introduce the books/theses published on subjects related to the scope of the journal. The text of all manuscripts in the special section, not including references, tables, figures or legends must not exceed 500 words. No more than five references and either one table or one figure are allowed. E. Review Articles: These manuscripts are prepared by the authors related to the subject only at the invitation of the editorial board . These manuscripts are writings that review comprehensively the newest knowledge relevant to their subject, domestic and abroad researches and that argue author(s) own experiences and/or research results. The main text section of the review manuscripts (except for title page, references, and table-figure-picture) must not exceed 5000 words. IV. Writing Style Manuscripts to be submitted to the journal include the title page, abstract, main text, references and tables/figures/pictures according to their types. A. Title Page: The title of the manuscript, names, titles and institutions of the authors, correspondence address, telephone and, if any, fax and e-mail of the corresponding author are written. In addition, a paragraph, which should be written as follows This manuscript whose compliance with Archives of Neuropsychiatry rules of writing has been checked, was read and approved by all the authors. All publication rights were transferred to the Archives of Neuropsychiatry , must be included and signed by all of the authors. B. Abstract and Keywords: This is written in two languages, Turkish and English and also includes the title of the manuscript. The abstract includes subtitles of objective, method, results and discussion and consists of 300 words. At the end of the abstract, at least 3, at most 5 keywords in both languages are included. Keywords must be written in appropriate quality and standard terminology. Turkish keywords should be chosen from among Turkey Science Terms . The authors use information web address for http://www.bilimterimleri.com. Turkey Science Terms correspond to the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). Main Text: The main text of the manuscript is organized under the subtitles of introduction, method, results and discussion. In the introduction, following a brief statement of basic information and justifications which constitute the basis of the manuscript, the objective is clearly given in the last paragraph. If necessary, the method section may be organized according to the subtitles such as research/patient/test group, instruments, application and statistical analysis. This section should be written with clarity so that a person not involved in the study may easily understand. The results section summarizes the findings of the study and, when necessary, basic findings are supported with tables and figures. In the discussion section, the findings are discussed in the light of relevant national and international studies. This section includes the discussion of original findings, not a general review. D. Acknowledgement: When considered necessary, author(s) may add brief acknowledgements in few sentences to those whose contributions to the manuscript are not at author level but deserve mentioning. Here, the contributions of those acknowledged (e.g. financial or equipment aid, technical support, general support of the head of department etc.) are clearly stated (e.g. scientific counseling, editing on the draft, data collection, participation in clinical research etc.). E. References: References used are listed according to the reference order in the main text and shown in parenthesis in the text, tables and figure or table footnotes.
